LAD 9012 - Math Essentials

2 Credits


Math Essentials is a two hour-credit course designed for students who score less than 16 on the ACT exam or the equivalent on the COMPASS exam.  All students scoring at or below ACT 15 in Math or COMPASS Math Pre-Algebra 47 or below/Algebra 22 or below ACCUPLACER Arithmetic 30 or below/Elementary Algebra 25 or below will be required to take Math Essentials before entering Foundations of College Mathematics 1. 


Math Essentials will prepare students from a wide range of technical and career fields to develop skills for success. This course will teach/review the basic concepts of math including operations with whole numbers; fractions and decimals and applications of each.  These skills are required to demonstrate a solid understanding of basic math and prepare students for algebraic topics.  Math Essential will also teach organizational skills needed to assist students with the structure critical for success in Math Essentials and subsequent math classes.  Math Essentials will include an orientation to MyLabsPlus which introduces students to the technology used in LAD 9014 Foundations of College Math 1    and LAD 9024 Foundations of College Math 2  .  Upon successful completion of Math Essentials the student should be able to enroll in LAD 9014 Foundations of College Math 1  .

Pre or Corequisite: Placement by ACT in Math with 15 or below or COMPASS Math Pre-Algebra 47 or below/Algebra 22 or below or ACCUPLACER Arithmetic 30 or below/Elementary Algebra 25 or below
