MUS 1213 - Music Appreciation* 3 Credits Music, its origin and development. A library of recorded instrumental and vocal music is used to illustrate. The course seeks to relate music to the other arts, literature, and the social sciences. A foundation to the appreciation of music.
Course Level Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Relate development of music to corresponding political, artistic and intellectual movements. (GEO 2, 3, 4)
2. Analyze various elements of music. (GEO 2, 3)
3. Distinguish music by period. (GEO 2, 3)
4. Distinguish music by style. (GEO 3)
5. Distinguish music by form. (GEO 3)
6. Examine and discuss music of non-Western traditions. (GEO 1, 3)
7. Express musical ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. (GEO 1, 3)
