ALH 1203 - Medical Terminology 3 Credits Provides the student with an application of and orientation to medical terminology. The basic structure of medical terms and their components, roots, prefixes, suffixes, and combining forms with emphasis on analyzing meaning, spelling, and pronunciation. The student will build a medical vocabulary applicable to the specialties of all health care professions.
Course Level Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Apply medical terminology appropriately in specific situations. (GEO 2, 3, 4)
2. Analyze, build, and spell medical words that pertain to the human body. (GEO 1, 2)
3. Identify and define selected vocabulary words and abbreviations. (GEO 1, 2)
4. Describe the function of various body systems and the pathological conditions that may occur within the system. (GEO 2, 3)
