CIS 1073 - Computer Science for Non-Majors 3 Credits An introduction to computer science and programming focusing on computational thinking, problem solving, analyzing data, creating and modifying algorithms, using programs to solve problems, and reflecting on the global impacts of technology.
Prerequisite: Basic computer skills and appropriate placement scores [College Algebra Review 1, Comp w/ ALP]
Corequisite: CIS 1031 Computer Science I Lab
Course Level Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Describe the need for computer programming.
2. Utilize problem-solving strategies.
3. Analyze connections between elements of mathematics and computer science.
4. Analyze various ways in which data is represented (e.g. binary, strings, integers, etc.)
5. Create, evaluate, and modify algorithms.
6. Create computer programs to solve problems.
7. Analyze the utilization of computers.
8. Utilize appropriate digital tools for various applications.
9. Analyze various components and functions of computers
10. Discuss appropriate uses and impacts of technology.
