NUR 2303 - Nursing Process IV

3 Credits


The focus of this course is to apply curricular concepts and apply evidence-based care in the area of mental health. Student behaviors will include the application of the nursing process for clinical decision-making to provide patientcentered care for the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health with a variety of developmental and culturally diverse patients. The nutritional needs of the mental health patient will be integrated through the course to specific disease processes and physiological changes. Theory and clinical content will emphasize the concepts of quality and safety, legal and ethical considerations, and healthcare team roles in the area of mental health. Self-assessment and self-awareness are encouraged to enhance self-development and foster therapeutic relationships. Communication skills are further developed using theories of interpersonal relationships as a foundation with a focus on the development of goal-directed therapeutic communication techniques. Application of knowledge and skills occurs in a variety of inpatient and outpatient clinical settings. Morning, afternoon, evening, and/or weekend hours in a behavioral health care setting may be scheduled for clinical experience.

Prerequisite: ENG 1113 English Composition I* NUR 1201 Critical Thinking Applications II NUR 1208 Nursing Process II BIOL 2244 Microbiology* , all passed with a grade of “C” or better

Pre or Corequisite: PSYC 1103 General Psychology*  

Corequisite: NUR 2107 Nursing Process III . Must pass NUR 2017 Nursing Process II with a “C” or better to progress.

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
