CIS 1612 - Networking

2 Credits
This course provides the student with the skills and knowledge required to be an entry-level network administrator. Course topics include: 1) Identifying network cable and network topologies; 2) Identifying common
network standards; 3) Identifying wired and wireless network components; 4) Subnetting and managing static and dynamic IP addressing; 5) Managing network protocols; 6) Layer 2 Switching unicast, broadcast, and
multicast frames.

Course Availability: Offered Spring Semester Only

Prerequisite: CIS 1063 Intro to Networking & Cyber Security   

Course Level Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Create a network connection between two or more computers. (PLO 1, 2, 4)
  2. Configure basic configurations for routers and switches to establish network connectivity. (PLO 1, 2, 4)
  3. Employ an IP Address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS configuration in a network environment. (PLO 1, 2, 3, 4)
  4. Calculate the subnets and hosts required for given network requirements (PLO 3, 4, 6)
