MLT 2002 - Intro. To Medical Lab. Technology

Emphasis on job-related problems and experiences in the clinical laboratory, with a review of current techniques in testing, instrumentation, personnel practices, and governmental/legal aspects. Suitable for continuing education requirements.

Course Level Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Describe the organization and operation of the clinical laboratory. (PLO 4, 6)
Describe and perform proper venipuncture and capillary collection techniques. (PLO 3, 6)
Perform basic manual testing procedures in hematology, immunohematology, chemistry, urinalysis and microbiology and evaluate results. (PLO 6)
Identify, define and use basic medical terminology as introduced in this course. (PLO 3)
Describe safety equipment and standard safety measures used in a clinical lab setting, applying/demonstrating as appropriate in the student lab. (PLO 6)
Recognize perspectives of diverse groups relating to laboratory procedures. (PLO 8)
