RAD 2303 - Radiation Physics

3 Credits
This course focuses on fundamental physics for radiologic technology including electromagnetic induction, fundamentals of x-ray generating equipment, x-ray production, and beam characteristics.

Prerequisite: RAD 1303 Introduction To Radiography RAD 1404 Radiographic Procedures I RAD 1502 Clinical Education I  

Corequisite: RAD 1512 Clinical Education II RAD 1704 Radiographic Procedures II RAD 1903 Radiation Protection & Biology  

Course Level Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Distinguish individual types of radiation along the electromagnetic spectrum. (PLO 5, 10 )
  2. Discuss the basic structure of matter. (PLO 10)
  3. Compare the different types, ranges, and capacities of x-ray equipment. (PLO 11)
  4. Identify the different target interactions that happen at the anode. (PLO 10, 11)
  5. Create and label all parts of the x-ray tube as well as the x-ray circuit. (PLO 11)
  6. Calculate the effect of changes in voltage, amperage, and resistance in Ohms law. (PLO 11)
