WLD 1238 - GTAW (TIG Welding)

In this course, students will study the gas tungsten arc welding process. The student will use equipment to perform various welds in all positions. Labs will provide opportunities for students to practice the GTAW process and clean the metals. Students will learn how to repair and maintain the equipment. Upon completion of this course, students will be proficient in both aluminum and steel TIG welding. They will have the skills needed to obtain jobs in the TIG welding career field. This course follows the American Welding Society curriculum.

Course Level Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Demonstrate proper GTAW welding techniques in all positions on both steel & aluminum (PLO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
Demonstrate correct use of appropriate resources for welding procedures and repairs. (PLO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
Demonstrate professional workplace behaviors and communication skills required for employment. (PLO 2, 3, 4)
Demonstrate safe use of hand tools and power tools as well as measuring devices. (PLO 3, 4, 5)
Demonstrate correct shop safety procedures and compliance with environmental regulations as outlined by OSHA standards. (PLO 2, 3, 4)
