WLD 1248 - Layout & Fabrication

This course teaches students how to fit structured steel using formulas to calculate angles and cuts. Students will learn blueprint reading, measurement systems, and proper tool use. Students will gain hands-on experience with machines, such as saws, drills, and shears. By the end of the course, students will be able to build items from blueprints or work orders and explore techniques for artistic welding. The curriculum follows American Welding Society standards.

Prerequisite: The completion of one welding class or a background in welding.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Demonstrate proper layout & fabrication techniques & welding procedures in metal construction. (PLO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
Demonstrate correct use of appropriate resources for welding procedures and repairs. (PLO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
Demonstrate professional workplace behaviors and communication skills required for employment. (PLO 2, 3, 4)
Demonstrate safe use of hand tools and power tools as well as measuring and leveling devices. (PLO 3, 4, 5)
Demonstrate correct shop safety and reporting procedures and compliance with environmental regulations as outlined by OSHA standards. (PLO 2, 3, 4)
