HA 2312 - Tourism Management

2 Credits
This course centers on the role of customer service in any tourism, hospitality, or recreational space. Principles, techniques, and communication skills required for exemplary customer service will be stressed, as will conflict resolution, risk management, and the values and ethics of serving the public. Includes presentations and workshops with industry experts and will require off-site travel.

Course Level Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Identify the role of customer service in tourism, emphasizing guest satisfaction, expectations, and quality experiences. (GEO 3)
  2. Identify foundational concepts of tourism management, including industry structure, key sectors, and local/regional needs. (GEO 3)
  3. Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse audiences and individuals. (GEO 3)
  4. Apply basic problem-solving and service recovery strategies to handle customer complaints and challenges in tourism settings. (GEO 3)
  5. Analyze ethical, cultural, and professional considerations that impact customer service decision-making. (GEO 3)
