OREC 1042 - Outdoor Power Equipment Maintenance

This course introduces students to the repair and maintenance of small gasoline-powered engines typically used in outdoor power equipment. The course will include safe operation of commonly used equipment such as power washers, chainsaws, blowers, and cutting equipment.

Course Level Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Explain the fundamental principles and components of commonly used outdoor gasoline-powered equipment, including engines, fuel systems, and electrical systems. (GEO 3)
Identify tools, materials, and safety equipment necessary for maintaining and repairing outdoor power equipment. (GEO 3)
Demonstrate proper preventive maintenance techniques, including cleaning, lubrication, inspection, and adjustment of equipment. (GEO 3)
Apply troubleshooting procedures to diagnose common mechanical and electrical problems in outdoor power equipment. (GEO 3)
Perform basic repair and replacement tasks on components such as spark plugs, filters, belts, and blades. (GEO 3)
Implement safety protocols, proper protective gear, and environmental assessment during the maintenance and operation of outdoor power equipment. (GEO 3)
