OREC 2043 - Outdoor Recreation Programming

3 Credits
Studies the principles and methods of programming effective, safe, and eco-friendly outdoor recreational activities. Planning, organization, access, and risk management will also be discussed. Must be 18 years of age; may require overnight stay.

Course Level Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Explain foundational principles of outdoor recreation programming, including program types, models, and planning processes. (PLO 2)
  2. Identify the needs, interests, and characteristics of diverse participant populations to inform program design. (PLO 1)
  3. Demonstrate the ability to plan and structure outdoor recreation activities, including scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management considerations. (PLO 2)
  4. Apply evaluation techniques to assess the effectiveness, safety, and participant satisfaction of outdoor programs. (PLO 2, 7)
  5. Incorporate ethical, environmental, and sustainability considerations into the design and delivery of outdoor recreation experiences that support Leave No Trace principles. (PLO 1)
