ALH 2111 - CPR and First Aid for Health Care Providers 1 Credits This course provides instruction and hands-on training in emergency response skills for healthcare professionals and students entering health-related fields. Emphasis is placed on the recognition and management of life-threatening emergencies, high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and effective team-based resuscitation.
Students will complete certification requirements through the American Heart Association for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers and Heartsaver® First Aid. Course content includes adult, child, and infant CPR; use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); relief of choking; management of respiratory and cardiac emergencies; and basic first aid procedures for medical, injury, and environmental emergencies.
Successful completion requires demonstration of practical skills competency and passing required written and performance evaluations. Upon successful completion, students will earn American Heart Association certification cards in BLS and Heartsaver First Aid.

Course Level Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify life-threatening emergencies (GEO 2,3)
- Perform high-quality CPR on adult, child, and infant patients in accordance with current AHA guidelines (GEO 2,3,4)
- Demonstrate proper use of an AED (GEO 2,3,4)
- Relieve foreign-body airway obstruction (GEO 3,4)
- Deliver appropriate first aid interventions while adhering to standard infection control precautions and using proper PPE (GEO 1,2,3,4)
- Successfully complete required written and skills evaluations to meet AHA certification standards (GEO 1,2,3)
