HSEM 2033 - Citizen and Community Disaster Preparedness3 Credits This course focuses on developing awareness of the ways in which community-based preparedness programs strengthen the effectiveness of response efforts in the aftermath of a disaster. Topics include developing community resilience, assessing and mitigating potential hazards, and building relations among the various stakeholders in a community. Emphasis is placed on the examination of programs and partnerships that foster disaster preparedness with the general public and with special needs or high-risk populations. Priority will be given to those students seeking a Certificate of Proficiency in Homeland Security/Emergency Management.
