PHMT 1013 - Pharmacy Calculations

3 Credits
The course focuses on the math skills required to function in the role of a Pharmacy Technician in both institutional/hospital and community/retail settings. This course will review basic math skills. The comparisons and conversions between measurements systems commonly used in health care are introduced. The student will read medication orders and perform calculations to process the order correctly. This course will teach students the calculations for special populations, IV administration, mixtures, solid and liquid dosages, powders, and conversion calculations. Passing a competency test to demonstrate the student’s ability to meet the industry standard is required for completion of the course.

Prerequisites: Foundations of College Math 2C, or Compass’ Intermediate Algebra score of 36-41, ACT score of 19, or equivalent placement and acceptance into the Pharmacy Technology Program or Program Director Approval.
