CHEM 2204 - Chemistry II for Majors* 4 Credits Continuation of CHEM 1204 - Chemistry I for Majors* . This course provides students with the fundamental laws, theories, and problem-solving skills associated with properties of solutions, chemical kinetics, chemical equilibria, acid/base equilibria, second and third laws of thermodynamics, electrochemistry, and main group/transition metal chemistry.
  Lab Fee.
Prerequisite: CHEM 1204 - Chemistry I for Majors*  passed with a grade of “C” or better, or instructor consent.
Course Level Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
	- State the characteristics of liquids and solids, including phase diagrams. (GEO 2, 3)

	- Use laboratory equipment to properly conduct experiments. (GEO 4)

	- Articulate the importance of intermolecular interactions and predict trends in physical properties. (GEO 1, 2, 3)

	- Analyze and perform calculations with the thermodynamic functions, enthalpy, entropy, and free energy. (GEO 2, 3)

	- Determine the rate of a reaction and its dependence on concentration, time, and temperature. (GEO 2, 3)

	- Identify and balance oxidation-reduction equations and solve redox titration problems. (GEO 2, 3)

	- Identify the characteristics of acids, bases, and salts, and solve problems based on their quantitative relationships. (GEO 2, 3)

	- Apply the principles of equilibrium to aqueous systems using LeChatelier’s Principle to predict the effects of concentration, pressure, and temperature changes on equilibrium mixtures. (GEO 2, 3)

	- Discuss the construction and operation of galvanic and electrolytic electrochemical cells and determine standard and non‐standard cell potentials. (GEO 1, 2, 3)

	- Use laboratory equipment to properly conduct experiments. (GEO 4)
