PHYS 1114 - Physical Science* 4 Credits Introduces the basic principles and concepts in the areas of physics, chemistry, earth science, and astronomy.
Lab Fee.
Prerequisite: Completion of LAD 9111 Math Essentials with a grade of “C” or better, or eligible for enrollment in LAD 9082 Math Reasoning Review 2 or LAD 9072 College Algebra Review 2 based on placement test.
It is highly recommended that the student has already completed, or is concurrently enrolled in a college-level math class.
Course Level Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Discuss the historical people, events, and technologies that have contributed to the discipline of the Physical Sciences. (GEO 1, 3)
- Identify and apply the underlying chemical and physical principles and formulae that effect our world, such as Newton’s laws, laws of electromagnetism, and atomic forces. (GEO 2, 3)
- Recognize the scientific principles and methodologies utilized in the study of Physical Science. (GEO 3)
- Identify the basic interactions of the physical world with humankind. (GEO 3)
- Utilize the Scientific Method to properly perform laboratory experiments and apply this data to specific Physical Science questions. (GEO 2, 3)
- Develop the ability to clearly communicate and write scientifically. (GEO 1)
- Apply appropriate general laboratory techniques by using small group collaboration (GEO 4)
