RAD 2902 - Image Quality and Acquisition II 2 Credits This course explores the principles of digital radiography, focusing on the differences between direct and indirect imaging systems. Key topics include the primary components of image quality: image receptor exposure, contrast, spatial resolution, and distortion. Students will learn to evaluate and adjust radiographic techniques in response to various factors that influence image quality.
Prerequisite: RAD 1813 Radiographic Exposure , RAD 2504 Radiographic Procedures IV , RAD 2603 Clinical Education IV
Corequisite: RAD 2703 Clinical Education V , RAD 2913 Radiographic Seminar
Course Level Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Evaluate the computed radiography imaging process, assessing the formation of the latent image and analyzing how technical factors influence computed radiography image quality. (PLO 11)
- Differentiate and assess the image acquisition process between indirect and direct digital imaging systems, determining the advantages and limitations of each. (PLO 11)
- Critically analyze how all exposure factors affect digital image quality, and synthesize strategies to optimize imaging results. (PLO 6, 7)
- Critique and assess digital radiography images for diagnostic efficacy, identifying and evaluating artifacts that may compromise image quality. (PLO 7)
- Synthesize and evaluate the effects of the four prime components of image quality-image receptor exposure, contrast, spatial resolution, and distortion by examining how various influencing factors impact these elements. (PLO 7, 11)
