CIS 2663 - Routing & Switching

3 Credits
This course teaches intermediate and advanced configuration techniques for large enterprise level Cisco routers and switches. Students will receive hands-on training setting up, configuring, and implementing layer 2 and layer 3 switches, and routers, along with virtualized servers and clients to create a network infrastructure. They will learn switch and router configuration commands using console cable connections. Some of the  configurations will include table routes, VLANs, trunking, interVLAN routing, OSPF, and NAT all working together to create fully functional network infrastructures suitable for medium to large metropolitan area networks.

Prerequisite: CIS 1613 Networking  

Corequisite: CIS 1623 Network Security  

Course Level Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Install and configure layer 3 Cisco switches. (PLO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7)
  2. Install and configure enterprise Cisco routers. (PLO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7)
  3. Implement ipv4 subnetting in an enterprise network. (PLO 1, 2, 3, 4)
  4. Implement Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) in an enterprise network using routers. (PLO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
  5. Implement OSPF routing. (PLO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
  6. Implement port security on Cisco routers. (PLO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
  7. Install and configure Cisco Security Appliance to establish a security DMZ. (PLO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7)
